The switch features 36 QSFP28 ports supporting multi-rate operation at 1/10/25/40/100 Gbps (using QSA adapters for 1/10G and universal breakout for 4×25G, 2×50G) on most ports, enabling seamless migration from legacy 10/40G infrastructure to modern 25/100G fabrics. The switch delivers 7.2 Tbps switching capacity with a forwarding rate of over 2.8 billion packets per second (Bpps) and sub-microsecond latency. Platform resources include 40 MB buffer, 256,000 MAC address table entries, 3,967 VLANs, and 24 GB DRAM memory.
High Availability & Security
The chassis supports 1+1 redundant hot-swappable power supplies (750W AC, 1100W AC/DC/HVAC-HVDC options) and six fan modules in dual-rotor, N+1 redundant configurations. All 36 ports support wire-rate MACsec encryption (IEEE 802.1ae) for line-rate physical-layer security. The switch can also support Fibre Channel (FC) transceivers on ports 9–36 for LAN/SAN convergence. Management ports include one 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 port, one SFP management port, one RS-232 console port, and one USB 2.0 port.
Software Flexibility & Deployment
The switch operates in dual modes: Cisco NX-OS mode for open, standard-based leaf-spine fabrics with VXLAN BGP EVPN, segment routing, and rich traffic telemetry; and Cisco ACI mode for policy-based automation as a spine or leaf node in Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) fabrics. The N9K-C9336C-FX2 series is ideal for enterprise data center spine/aggregation, hyperscale cloud leaf-spine architectures, service provider edge and metro aggregation, and LAN/SAN convergence scenarios.
