Summary of Cisco Catalyst C9300 48P Switch

The switch offers 48 x 10/100/1000BASE-T PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) downlink ports with up to 30 W of power per port to power IP phones, wireless access points, surveillance cameras and other IoT endpoints. It has a field-replaceable 715W AC power supply, with a PoE budget of 437W (expandable with a second PSU). The modular uplink slot is compatible with C9300 NM series modules for flexible uplink expansion from 1G to 10G (SFP+), 25G, 40G, or 100G for seamless scaling without chassis replacement. The chassis has two power supply slots and three field replaceable N+1 redundant fans for improved availability.

The switch is built on Cisco IOS XE and UADP 2.0 ASIC with a standalone switching capacity of 256 Gbps and forwarding rate of 190.48 Mpps.StackWise 480 technology provides 480 Gbps stacking bandwidth and supports up to eight switches in a single logical stack with NSF/SSO for sub-50 ms failover protection. It includes 8 GB DRAM and 16 GB NAND for natively hosting containers and apps on the switch. It has 32,000 MAC addresses, 4,000 VLANs, jumbo frames up to 9,198 bytes and a 16 MB packet buffer.

Additional security features include hardware-based AES-256 MACsec encryption, TrustSec, 802.1X authentication and Encrypted Traffic Analytics for visibility into encrypted threats. The switch has either permanent Network Essentials (E) licenses for basic Layer 2/3 routing (including OSPF, EIGRP stub) or Network Advantage (A) licenses for full dynamic routing (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS) and VRF-based segmentation.

C9300-48P series is ideal for campus access layers, large branch offices and converged environments with PoE+ requirements needing 48 ports of secure Gigabit connectivity for IP phones, Wi-Fi access points, cameras and IoT devices, with the industry's highest density stacking bandwidth and most flexible uplink architecture.

FAQ

Q1: What makes C9300-48P stand out from other enterprise access switches?

A1: As a high-performance enterprise access/aggregation switch in Cisco Catalyst 9300 series, it integrates 48 PoE+ ports with modular uplinks, supports StackWise-480 stacking (for high-reliability unified management), StackPower (power redundancy sharing), and full compatibility with Cisco DNA Center for intelligent automation. It is specifically optimized for Wi-Fi 6/6E convergence, high-density PoE terminal access, and advanced security, making it more scalable and feature-rich than entry-level or mid-range models.

Q2: Can C9300-48P be used as both access and aggregation switch?

A2: It is flexible for dual deployment scenarios: as an access switch, it can support 48 PoE+ terminals (IP phones, APs, cameras); as an aggregation switch, its modular uplinks (supports up to 40G) and high switching capacity (256 Gbps) allow it to aggregate traffic from multiple access switches, reducing network latency and improving transmission efficiency.

Q3: Does C9300-48P support PoE power management and intelligent allocation?

A3: Absolutely. It supports intelligent PoE power allocation, which can automatically detect PoE-compatible devices, allocate power based on the actual power needs of the terminal (instead of fixed 30W), and prevent power waste. It also supports PoE scheduling and priority settings, ensuring critical devices (such as surveillance cameras and emergency IP phones) get stable power supply even when the total PoE budget is tight.

Q4: How many uplink slots does C9300-48P have, and what modules are recommended for different scenarios?

A4: It has 4 modular uplink slots (2x 10G/25G slots + 2x 1G/10G/25G/40G slots, depending on the specific model). Recommended modules: 10G SFP+ modules (for campus access-aggregation connection), 25G SFP28 modules (for high-bandwidth Wi-Fi 6E AP aggregation), and 40G QSFP+ modules (for core-aggregation connection in large-scale networks).

Q5: What is the difference between C9300-48P and C9300-48P-E/A?

A5: The core hardware (48 PoE+ ports, uplink slots, performance) is the same; the difference lies in the software license: C9300-48P-E comes with Network Essentials (basic management and security features), while C9300-48P-A comes with Network Advantage (supports advanced features like SD-Access, advanced QoS, and enhanced security).
