Built on 4x4:4 MU-MIMO architecture with four spatial streams on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, the AP delivers a maximum aggregate PHY data rate of up to 5.38 Gbps, making it suitable for high-density offices, campuses, retail environments, and healthcare facilities that demand high-capacity Wi-Fi connectivity. It implements a full suite of Wi-Fi 6 efficiency features: uplink/downlink OFDMA reduces latency in dense client environments, MU-MIMO increases multi-device throughput, BSS Coloring enhances spatial reuse, and Target Wake Time (TWT) extends battery life for IoT and mobile clients.
Four RP-TNC connectors support external dual-band antennas certified up to 6 dBi on both frequencies, with Cisco's broad antenna selection enabling precise cell shaping for high ceilings, long corridors, or challenging RF coverage requirements. The AP includes a 2.5G multigigabit Ethernet uplink (IEEE 802.3bz, Cat5e-compatible) and an integrated Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy (BLE) radio for location-based use cases such as wayfinding, asset tracking, and IoT application hosting. Powered via IEEE 802.3at PoE+ or Cisco UPOE, the AP maintains full 4x4 operation and 2.5G link speed, and under 802.3af PoE, it automatically reduces to 2x2 mode with a 1G uplink. The platform includes 2 GB DRAM and 1 GB flash.
Management is supported through Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers (IOS-XE 16.11+), AireOS (8.9+), or optional Embedded Wireless Controller (EWC) on EWC model variants (C9115AXE-EWC). The Cisco Trust Anchor Module and secure boot provide hardware-anchored integrity validation; support for WPA3 and 802.1X authentication offers advanced wireless security.
